Gymstick for Older Adults
Gymstick for Older Adults was developed in response to feedback from trainers requiring a more individualized program tailored to the needs of older adults. This training will provide personal trainers, group exercise instructors, physiotherapists, and exercise physiologists with the tools to be able to provide their clients with varied, safe, appropriate and effective workout. It is a safe and effective way to work out and is easily adapted for all clients from active to rehabilitation.
Older adults want to maintain their ability to move in everyday life with ease and without pain. Gymstick is an excellent tool for incorporating functional everyday movements into a workout that challenges the body and mind safely. If your client is unable to stand or sit, this education covers all aspects of how to use the Gymstick effectively to cater for different health issues. Its simplicity makes this tool easy to use and non-intimidating.
These six elements are incorporated into a functional workout that mimics the body's natural movements. Members will experience less muscle and joint strain as a result.
- Muscular strength
- Muscular endurance
- Core muscle activation
- Postural alignment
Gymstick for Older Adults also incorporates the TRIOS technique, developed by Gymstick International. TRIOS are sets of three exercises that progressively increase in intensity by adding more fitness elements such as balance, range of motion and increased joint action. Members are free to choose the level of intensity and resistance they apply with each movement. Each section of the TRIOS is 30 seconds in length and this means that for most exercises there will only be enough time for 8 to 12 repetitions. This repetition range falls within the range that will most likely achieve muscle hypertrophy and strength. This is one of the advantages that TRIOS has over conventional barbell or muscle conditioning workouts, as these types of workouts focus on the number of repetitions to reach fatigue.
